Our laboratory adopts the Japanese kanji 「異」 meaning "different" or "alternate".
This character is commonly found in 「異世界」or "Isekai" which commonly refer to specific
genre of Japanese art (anime, game, novel, or comic) to depict an alternate reality
while keeping all the sense of reality intact. Our laboratory focuses on realizing
the concept of Isekai by conducting research on Cross-Reality system (XR) that encompass
Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Mixed reality (MR). Our focus
is to remove the boundary between reality and virtual through multimodal interaction
(five sense interaction) to make the Isekai or alternate reality closer.
